Soon after writing the manuscript for the final chapter, which contains the resolution, Poe informs Ranpo of the writer Kindaichi, who was murdered in the manner he depicted in his novel. The public becomes obsessed with solving the mystery after the murderer steals the manuscript, but to no avail. In order to increase the manuscript’s value as more people get interested in the case, Ranpo surmises that the murderer and the victim were fairly close. The killer also waited until the manuscript was complete before killing Kindaichi, and in fact sold it to Poe for a total of 20 million.

When Poe realises what’s going on, he finishes the transaction and starts looking for someone nearby who has a red envelope, which Ranpo notices. As they are taking the envelope, a man who they recognise as the suppressor plunges to his death from the tower, piqued their curiosity. Ranpo and Poe come to the conclusion that the victim is not the suppressor based on the city police’s early arrival, which suggests that the offender had called them beforehand, the victim’s shoe, and his fabricated face. Mushitar Oguri, who is hiding in the crowd, activates his power as Ranpo is about to use Super Deduction, destroying the evidence at the crime site and confusing him.

Poe is concerned for Ranpo at the crime site, but the latter casually departs to settle matters. Mushitar, who recalled strangling Kindaichi to death, was startled when Ranpo approached him and inquired about the location of the taxi stand. Even though Ranpo rode in his getaway vehicle, he ultimately fails in his attempt to send the detective away and pledges to assist him find employment in the future.

Inside the vehicle, Mushitar engages Ranpo in idle conversation while the detective updates him on the current murder investigation. Although he has solved the crime, he asserts that the murderer have a talent for changing reality. When the suppressor saw the envelope being taken at the tower, he claims, he pushed off a body double. Ranpo, much to Mushitar’s concern, determines that the murderer removed the manuscript and envelope from the author before killing himself. This is based on the evidence that he has in his possession.
