Harry Kane netted a double as Tottenham thrashed Everton 5-0 in the Premier League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday. Spurs took an early lead through Michael Keane’s own goal before Son Heung-Min doubled the lead and then Kane made it 3-0 going into the interval. Frank Lampard sought to address matters by replacing Keane at half-time but Sergio Reguilon scored Spurs’ fourth of the night immediately after the restart. And then, Kane completed his brace with a brilliant volley from Doherty’s assist.

Antonio Conte’s side put their nose in front inside the opening 14 minutes when left-wing-back Ryan Sessegnon’s cross from the byline led to Keane’s own goal. The central defender under pressure from Kane put the ball into his own net at the near post.

The hosts doubled the lead after three minutes when son latched on to Kulusevski’s through ball and finished off with an early shot which squirmed under the body of Everton keeper Jordan Pickford on his 200th Premier League appearance.

Ten minutes later, Kane lashed a rebound wide after Pickford had saved from Son. Doherty had also gone close with a close-range effort, with Everton defence at sixes and sevens. Everton were struggling to contain the Spurs’ quick counter-attacks and conceded their third of the night on 37 minutes.

Doherty played an inch-perfect through ball from the midfield to release Kane on goal and the England captain made no mistake as he slotted home past Pickford into the bottom corner. Although VAR had intervened for a marginal off-side call, the goal stood as the Englisman had times his run to perfection.

Kane completes brace

Forty one seconds into the second half, Spurs scored their fourth of the night courtesy of a well-worked team move. Son combined with Kane before spreading the ball to Kulusevski on the right, whose first time cross was tucked in by substitute Reguilon at the far post. Meanwhile Everton had a rare attempt on goal at the other end through Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Erik Dier headed into the crossbar from Kane’s cross before Kane netted Spurs’ fifth of the night courtesy of a superb first-time volley from Doherty’s overhead diagonal ball. It was the striker’s 176th Premier League goal, surpassing Thierry Henry in the records.

Dele Alli was introduced for the final 20 minutes and was given a warm reception from the home supporters. There were few Everton fans left inside the stadium to hear the final whistle.
