The race to finish in the Premier League fourth spot is starting to heat up. There are about four teams – Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham United – that have the chance of securing the coveted fourth place in the table. While West Ham were always the outsiders, Spurs, Arsenal and United have a more realistic chance to make it into the Champions League places. With only a few weeks left in the season, every match counts for these teams. Let us take a look at the teams that have the best chance of making it into the top four places in the Premier League this season:

Manchester United (51 points from 31 games)

Among the three teams fighting for the coveted fourth spot, Manchester United have the least chance of making it into a Champions League place. By mere reputation and the quality of players at their disposal, United should ideally be the favourites in the battle for the fourth place. However, their world class players have not been able to gel together as a team on the pitch. This has cost United several points in matches that they should have comfortably won.

Lately, the Red Devils have lost a lot of silly points in draws against the likes of Burnley, Southampton, Watford and Leicester City. Besides, the latest defeat against a struggling Everton at Goodison Park over the weekend has dealt a massive blow to their top four ambitions. United have 51 points from 31 games and are six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham. If they don’t turn their fortunes around quickly, then Manchester United will have to forget Champions League football next season.

Arsenal (54 points from 30 games)

At one point Arsenal were the favourites to grab the fourth spot. The Gunners had games in hand and were sitting comfortably in and around the fourth spot. However, three defeats in their last four matches have left Mikel Arteta’s side in a spot of bother. Their latest defeat – a 1-2 home loss against Brighton – has landed them in big trouble.

They are on 54 points from 30 games and have a game in hand. A victory will help them get level on points with their arch-rivals Tottenham. However, Antonio Conte’s side have a superior goal difference which will allow them to hold on to the fourth spot. Arsenal still remain in a much better position than Manchester United but they have to rediscover their earlier form to provide a proper fight for the fourth place.

Tottenham Hotspur (57 points from 31 games)

Antonio Conte’s side are in the driver’s seat to grab the final Champions League place. The battle for the fourth spot has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride and it has taken a massive twist in recent weeks. Tottenham Hotspur have capitalised big time on Arsenal and Manchester United dropping points in recent matches. Spurs appeared to be out of the top four race at one point, but credit to Conte for helping his players in finding their best form at the right time.

Tottenham are on a four-game winning streak in the Premier League. In each of these games, they have won by a two-goal margin. Not to mention the thumping victories against Newcastle United (5-1) and Aston Villa (4-0) in the last two matches have also increased their goal difference massively. Anything can still happen in the remaining seven matches, but the form is with Tottenham, which makes them the clear favourite to secure the fourth spot.
