Diogo Dalot has enjoyed a new lease of life at Manchester United since Ralf Rangnick became the club’s interim manager recently. The Portuguese right-back has struggled for game time under previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, Dalot seems to be a more frequent member of Rangnick’s team. The full-back had made 35 appearances in three seasons at United before 2021/22, however, his fortunes seem to have been changed, and recently has been granted several opportunities to shine. His recent run of games also saw him getting widely praised for his performances on the pitch. Unsurprisingly, Dalot has now praised the manager, stressing the fact that the German’s excellent communication skills have particularly impressed him.

Ahead of the Emirates FA Cup game with Aston Villa, the Portuguese full-back has opened up about his time so far playing under Rangnick. “It’s been a joy to have the opportunity to play more, to help the team more and give my football to the team, which is why I’m here,” said Dalot, according to their club’s website.

“Every time you change managers, it’s a new opportunity and a new experience. He’s a very experienced coach with a lot of years in football. His philosophy is very good in terms of the way that he communicates with everyone and the way he expresses his thoughts to us.

“It’s been fantastic to get to know him and, hopefully, we can build the relationship between the players and the manager even more and bring that to the pitch so we can win more games and perform a lot better.”

Dalot continues to be an important player for Manchester United

In Rangnick’s first match, United started with a hard-fought 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace in December. Dalot played an important role in the build-up to the match-winning goal by Fred. Diogo joined the attack on the right flank and passed the ball to Mason Greenwood, who set up Fred for the strike. Dalot has continued to be an important player for the team in attack during the next few matches under the interim manager.

“I think the manager wants to get the best out of each player and, for me, it’s about bringing my best qualities into every game,” he explained. “Drive forward, have the ball and try to serve the forward players, and, of course, defend well. Keep solid at the back and be physical and be aggressive – that’s my job as a full-back.”
