Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick did not mince words in delivering his opinion following the humiliating 4-0 loss to Liverpool. Rangnick feels that the Red Devils need up to 10 new players in order to rebuild the club and help them compete at the highest level. On Tuesday night, United were hammered by Jurgen Klopp’s side as the Premier League season is fast approaching its end. A double from Mohamed Salah and a goal each for Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz helped Liverpool maintain their title push. On the other hand, Manchester United’s hope of making it into the top four places is more or less over.

“It’s embarrassing, it’s disappointing, maybe even humiliating,” Rangnick told the media after the heavy defeat, as per Sky Sports. “We have to accept Liverpool are six years ahead of us now. When Jurgen Klopp came they changed at the club and lifted not just the team but the club and city to a new level. That is what needs to happen with us in the next transfer windows.”

As per the Premier League table, Manchester United are only three points off fourth-placed Tottenham but have played a game more. Arsenal are also on the same number of points as United but have two games in hand. However, Rangnick’s side still have to play some difficult games against Arsenal and Chelsea in the remaining matches. Besides, their confidence might be at an all time-low, which will further dent their chances of securing an unlikely top four finish.

Ralf Rangnick: There will be a rebuild for sure

At the end of his interim manager period, Ralf Rangnick is set to take over a two-year advisory role. He has stated that there will be a rebuild at the club, with some big changes about to happen at Old Trafford.

“There will be a rebuild for sure but that does not help us when we still have five games to play,” said Rangnick. “If you analyse the situation it is not difficult to analyse. For me, it is clear there will be six, seven, eight, maybe ten new players. Before you sign those players you need to be aware how you want to play.”

The 4-0 defeat on Tuesday night means Manchester United have now conceded nine goals against Liverpool without a reply this season. Earlier this season, Klopp’s side beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United 5-0 at Old Trafford.

“I don’t think we have checked out, they are just better than us,” he said. “They have 25 Formula One racing cars in their squad. I don’t think it makes sense to speculate about our chances of making the top four after a performance like today.”
