Liverpool will host Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds desperately need a win to stay close to Premier League leaders Manchester City, who thrashed Watford 5-1 on Saturday to take a four point lead at the summit. On the other hand, it is also a very important fixture for Everton, who are battling for their survival. Frank Lampard’s side are placed 17th in the standings, just one point above the drop zone. Fifteen places and 47 points separate the local rivals at the time of writing.

Arsenal vs Manchester United: Cristiano Ronaldo scores his 100th Premier League goal

The Reds are heading into the contest on the back of an impressive 4-0 victory against Manchester United on Tuesday. Mohamed Salah netted a double while Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane scored one goal each to secure a seventh victory in the last nine games across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool remain in hot pursuit for an unprecedented quadruple after overcoming Man City 3-2 last Sunday to reach the final of FA Cup and the German tactician will likely be planning for the Champions  semi-final first leg fixture against giant killer Villarreal on Wednesday.

Once again, Liverpool’s front three of Mane, Salah and Diogo Jota has been in superb form having netted a combined total of 51 league goals. Salah leads the race for the golden boot with 22 scalps to his name.

On the other hand, Everton head to Anfield on the back of a 1-1 draw against Leicester City at Goodison Park. Richarlison netted an injury-time goal to cancel out Harvey Barnes’ early opener and share spoils.

The Toffees have taken four points from their last two games, having defeated Manchester United 1-0 prior to the Leicester draw. The survival destiny of Lampard’s side is still in their own hands but as the worst performing side away from home in the league, losing 10 of their last 11 top-flight games on the road, their chances of producing a shock looks slim.

Probable lineups

Klop doesn’t have any injury concerns barring Roberto Firmino’s minor issue. The German coach has a fully-fit squad at his disposal for the visit of Everton. Thiago Alacanatra who was phenomenal against United, might be rested keeping an eye on the Villarreal clash.

As for Everton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss the derby because of a thigh issue which will keep him out for at least 10 days, while donny van de Beek and Andre Gomes are fresh concerns too.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Henderson, Fabinho, Keita, Salah, Jota, Diaz.

Everton possible starting lineup: Pickford, Coleman, Mina, Godfrey, Mykolenko, Delph, Allan, Iwobi, Gordon, Richarlison, Gray.
