FC Porto winger Luis Diaz was Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice for the January transfer window, but the Reds have now accelerated their plans because of Spurs’ strong interest. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have offered an official bid of initial 40 million euro guaranteed fee, with 25 million euro bonuses. Diaz is currently in South America and is set to feature in Colombia’s World cup qualifiers against Peru on Friday night. Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in the 25-year-old but with the entry of Liverpool in the race, Spurs’ chances of securing the Colombian’s services looks bleak.

According to Sky Sports news, Liverpool have sent a team to Argentina, in anticipation of doing medical there, with a timescale of about 72 hours expected for a deal that has been complicated by the player being in South America. After the match against Peru, the Colombian team will travel to Argentina for the second qualifier.

Earlier, Spurs were reportedly willing to pay GBP 46 million, with GBP 37.6 million up front and GBP 8.4 million in performance-related add-ons. Tottenham are now working hard on other options ahead of Monday’s deadline.

Missing out on Diaz could be another blow for Spurs as they had already failed to bring in Wolves winger Adama Traore, who is close to joining his boy-hood club Barcelona. Meanwhile, according to Sky Italia, they are also interested in Fiorentina’s defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. The Premier League club is planning a loan deal with a GBP 16 million buy option.

Diaz could prove to be a handful for Klopp as the Colombian is considered one of the best player in the Portuguese league. He is a technically sound player with good pace and flair. Apart from his ability to take on defenders he is also clinical in front of goal.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has an established attack, consisting of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, therefore Diaz will have to fight his way through to establish himself at Anfield.
