Manchester United’s injury situation keeps getting worse, with young winger Jadon Sancho being the latest victim. The English international could very well miss the rest of the season for the Red Devils, as per interim manager Ralf Rangnick. When United held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night, Sancho was absent from the team, as he joined Edinson Cavani, Fred, Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw on the sidelines. Besides, Jesse Lingard and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were also on the absentees’ list for the clash at Old Trafford. With United having very little to play for in the final few weeks of the season, Sancho’s injury will be a major setback for the team.

Jadon Sancho suffering from tonsillitis

Following the draw against Thomas Tuchel’s side, Ralf Rangnick held a pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s match against Brentford. During that interaction, the 63-year-old opened up about Sancho’s health situation and explained why he will be out for not only the match against Thomas Frank’s side but also for other games. “Jadon might be out for the rest of the season with his tonsillitis,” said the German with Manchester United sitting in the 6th spot in the Premier League table with 55 points from 35 games. “He will most likely be unavailable against Brentford.”

Manchester United to play final home game of the season

The match against Brentford will be the final home game of the season for Manchester United. After playing the Bees, United will take on Brighton next week and will pull the curtains on the season with a trip to Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace. With there is still time for the final game of the season against the Eagles to arrive, Rangnick hopes to have Sancho available by then. “[It is] another three weeks to go against Crystal Palace. But for the next two games, I think it is unlikely [that Sancho will play],” Rangnick explained.

Rangnick gives full extent of Sancho’s health situation

The 63-year-old coach then went on to explain the full extent of Sancho’s current health situation. “He’s got inflammation on his tonsils and has also had some high temperatures so that’s why he was not available tonight and he will most certainly not be available for the next two matches,” he said. “Hopefully, they can get hold of that inflammation and if his tonsils have to be removed, that can happen at the end of the season.”

Manchester United vs Brentford team news

Despite all the recent injury setbacks, Rangnick still hopes to have some players returning to the squad for the Monday night clash. “Right now, I don’t know but I hope Fred will make it for the Brentford game. Tonight, was too early for him,” Rangnick said. The Brazilian midfielder missed the last four games after sustaining an injury during the trip to Everton earlier this month. “As it seems, Jadon might be out for the rest of the season with his tonsillitis, so he will most likely be unavailable against Brentford.

He added: “Edinson Cavani is supposed to come back to training tomorrow [Friday] but then again, the question is he has been missing for the last four or five weeks, quite a long time, is he really a player who could then play against Brentford? Probably not to start with but at least from the bench. Apart from that, we have to wait and see. Harry Maguire [also missed the game v Chelsea], Jesse was missing for personal, family reasons today. I hope that some of those players will be back on Monday.”
