Manchester United megastar Cristiano Ronaldo knows how to set records both on and off the field. The five-time Ballon d’Or holder became the first person in the world to hit 400 million followers on Instagram. He was also the first to hit 200 million followers on the same platform in January last year. The Portuguese is also second, across profiles, on Instagram to real 469 million followers currently. He recently celebrated his 37th birthday and is likely to be in Manchester United’s playing XI in their Premier League clash against Burnley on Wednesday.

“Life is a roller coaster. Hard work, high speed, urgent goals, demanding expectations… But in the end, it all comes down to family, love, honesty, friendship, values that make it all worth it. Thanks for all the messages! 37 and counting!,” Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.

Ronaldo has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the UEFA European Championship for his native Portugal.

He is also the first footballer to have won league titles in England, Spain and Italy. He was also the highest goalscorer in last season’s Serie A and won the golden boot at this year’s European Championship. In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.

The talismanic forward rejoined Manchester United from Serie A record champions Juventus earlier this year. He has scored 14 goals in 24 matches for the club since his return.

“Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday. I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again. I’m looking forward to joining up with the team after the international games, and I hope we have a very successful season ahead.”

Manchester United are currently fourth in the Premier League standings with 38 points from 22 matches while their city rivals Manchester City are on top of the table with 57 points from 23 games. They are followed by Liverpool in second-position (48 points from 22 fixtures) and Chelsea in third-place with 47 points from 24 matches.
