Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte praised Harry Kane‘s attitude and commitment after the striker scored twice in a 3-1 win over Brighton to advance to the FA Cup fifth round. In the 13th minute, Kane curled in a stunning opener from outside the box at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Conte was pleased that Kane’s dedication is beginning to pay off with goals. The striker has scored seven goals in his last 11 games, indicating that he is returning to his best form after a first half of the season in which he looked a shadow of his former self. Kane, who wanted to leave Spurs last summer, deserves the goals, according to the Italian, because of his work ethic.

“Harry, in the past, in the games that he didn’t score, I liked his performance,” he said. “Harry is a player who’s scored a lot in the past as a number nine.”

“But what we can appreciate – me and the whole team – is his attitude and commitment for the whole team. I think this is the most important thing for us. Then, for sure, to score two goals is important because he’s a number nine, he’s used to scoring goals. We are working on the physical condition with the team. We’re trying to improve the intensity, also during the training sessions. I think all these situations can improve the performance with all the players.”

Good performance from Spurs

Spurs led 2-0 at halftime thanks to Kane’s goal and Solly March’s own goal in the 24th minute, when the Brighton forward deflected Emerson Royal’s cross past a helpless Robert Sanchez. After Yves Bissouma’s deflected strike in the 63rd minute gave Brighton hope, they threatened a second-half comeback. However, three minutes later, Kane restored Tottenham’s two-goal lead, ensuring Conte’s side advanced to the FA Cup fifth round.

Individual accolades are important to Kane, but it is silverware that motivates him the most, and he will be desperate for his boyhood club to progress in this competition and end a 13-year trophy drought. Spurs had a good night, with new signings Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur making their debuts as Conte’s formula takes shape.
