The thrill of a title race is something that encapsulates the hearts and minds of football fans all over the globe. Club fan or not, a thrilling title race is something that will grip one’s attention until its conclusion and it is usually an enthralling experience. However, not much attention is generally paid to the events that are more related to the foot of the table. Relegation battles. There is always a negative emotion related to the term relegation. Rightfully too as it is one of the worst things that can happen to a club in every way. So, when there are a good number number of clubs batting against that future, things can be pretty intense. This has been the case in the English Premier League so far this season as there is very little among the clubs fighting for survival. So far, Norwich City, Watford, Newcastle United and Burnley are the clubs that are in any immediate danger. The difference between the four at the moment are just three points and it is setting up for truly an outstanding finale. Here is a look at the current situation of the clubs currently battling relegation.

Norwich City

It has almost become like a tradition for the Canaries in the Premier League at this point. One season they will be sailing into England’s top flight only to be found at the bottom of the barrel the following year. Norwich have made it to the PL multiple times but they have rarely managed to concoct a formula that would help them enjoy an extended stay in the division.

The Canaries currently find themselves in 17th place after only winning four matches out of 22. They have recorded 16 points so far and have a goal difference of -32, the worst of any team in the league. Scoring goals is also a problem for Norwich as they have only managed to score 13 times this season, also a league low.

Watford

The first team in the drop zone as the season reached its midway point is the newly promoted Watford. The Hornets were in the Premier League for quite a while before being relegated in the 2019-20 season. They were then promoted after finishing second in the Championship the following season but things have definitely taken a turn for the worse. With Roy Hodgson as the new manager, the Vicarage Road faithful will be expecting a change of fortunes.

The Hornets currently sit at 18th on the league table and with just four wins to their name, have only amassed 15 points so far. One positive is that they have a game in hand over Norwich who are immediately above them.

Newcastle United

Although Newcastle were relegated in the recent future, it is still pretty awkward to see them languishing near the bottom of the table fighting for survival. The Magpies’ fans might have been elated after news of a Saudi takeover was confirmed but they are certainly dissatisfied with how the club has performed this season until now. Former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been recently entrusted with the responsibility of keeping the club in England’s top flight.

The Magpies are currently in 19th place, level on points with Watford above them and a goal difference of -22. Howe has experience in keeping a bottom-placed club in the league with Bournemouth and Newcastle fans will be hoping he can do the same.

Burnley

Despite being a much smaller club than most in the Premier League, Burnley have proudly held their ground and stayed up for several years now. This season, however, seems to have gone a bit wrong for manager and club legend Sean Dyche. They are plumb last in the league and if things do not get better, the club will contest in the Championship next season.

However, they are only three points from safety and have two games in hand over Watford and Newcastle, and three over Norwich. Dyche will have to weave his tactical magic yet again and this time, it might be for the most crucial objective, staying in the Premier League. They have 13 points from 19 matches at the moment.
