In the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan encounter, the first innings concluded with a significant collapse for Pakistan. Initially well-placed at 155/2 in the 30th over, they were bundled out for 191 by the 43rd over—an all-too-familiar scenario for Pakistan. Credit must be given to India for their proficient bowling in the crucial middle overs, managing to restrict their arch-rivals to a sub-200 total on a challenging pitch. As the teams head into the innings break, it’s evident that the Indian side is poised to be the more satisfied team.

Winning the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first. Despite a shaky start, Pakistan’s openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq displayed a solid partnership, accumulating 41 runs before Shafique fell in the eighth over, bowled by Mohammed Siraj. Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain, stepped in at number three. Imam, at the other end, showcased elegant strokes but was dismissed on 36. Mohammad Rizwan partnered with Babar, leading the recovery effort and adding valuable runs. The duo achieved a fifty-run partnership for the third wicket, with Babar reaching his maiden ODI fifty against India. However, Siraj’s second spell broke the partnership, dismissing Babar at 50. Saud Shakeel’s stay was brief as Kuldeep Yadav claimed him lbw for six. Iftikhar Ahmed also fell victim to Kuldeep, dragged back onto the stumps for four.

Returning Jasprit Bumrah to the attack proved to be a strategic move by Rohit, resulting in the dismissal of Rizwan on 49 and Shadab Khan on 2. The Pakistani batting struggled, and the Indian fans in the stadium grew more vocal. Pakistan’s innings continued to crumble, with Mohammad Nawaz departing for four while attempting to accelerate. Hasan Ali left the pitch on 12, granting Ravindra Jadeja his first wicket of the match. Wrapping up the tail, Jadeja dismissed Haris Rauf, bringing Pakistan’s innings to a close at 191.

India’s bowlers showcased a remarkable performance, with Bumrah, Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep, and Jadeja each picking up two wickets. Only Shardul Thakur remained wicketless. India’s bowling display instils confidence for their pursuit of the target. Pakistan, on the other hand, faces the challenge of defending this total. The upcoming second innings will reveal how both teams approach the remainder of the match. Stay tuned for India’s reply, as we’ll be back shortly.
