India is tasked with chasing down 257 for victory and securing their fourth consecutive win in the tournament. Bangladesh faces a challenge, with the pitch expected to become more batsman-friendly under the evening lights. A late-inning six by Shoriful Islam injected some momentum into Bangladesh as they set a modest total of 256/8 in their allotted 50 overs.

Shakib Al Hasan, the iconic all-rounder and skipper, was absent for Bangladesh. Instead, Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and chose to bat on a fresh Pune pitch. The opening pair of Litton Das (66 off 82) and Tanzid Hasan Tamim (51 off 43) provided a stellar foundation, amassing 93 runs for the first wicket, marking the highest-ever opening partnership for Bangladesh in World Cup history.

Both openers secured well-deserved half-centuries, placing India in a challenging position. India’s prospects took a hit when Hardik Pandya sustained a left knee injury while attempting to stop a boundary off his own bowling during his first over.

Kuldeep Yadav initiated India’s breakthrough, dismissing the young Tanzid with an LBW in the 15th over. Following this key dismissal, Indian bowlers consistently took wickets, keeping Bangladesh on the defensive for the remainder of the innings.

Exceptional catches by KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were strong contenders for the best catches of the tournament, prompting the Indian fielding coach, T Dilip, to express his admiration from the sidelines.

Although the seasoned Bangladesh batsmen, Mushfiqur Rahim (38 off 46) and Mahmudullah Riyad (46 off 36), made useful contributions, they failed to pose a significant threat to the Indian team.

Jasprit Bumrah delivered a spectacular performance, delivering one of the tournament’s standout deliveries to dismiss Riyad in the final over. Jadeja concluded with figures of 10-0-38-2, while Bumrah’s spell was exceptional at 10-1-41-2. Mohammed Siraj claimed a couple of wickets, and Kuldeep and Shardul Thakur each secured a wicket.
