The final Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka at the Sir Viv Richards stadium ended in a draw. With this result, the two-match series has ended 0-0. Sri Lanka ended the tour on a good note after being outplayed in the limited-overs. They lost the Twenty20 International series 1-2 while they were whitewashed 0-3 in the ODIs. The visitors were staring at defeat in the first Test. But, a superb fightback in the second innings saw them save the match. The second Test was marred by a slow pitch and rain.

With this result, West Indies now have an unwanted record against Sri Lanka. Their wait for a Test series win against them has now extended to over two decades now. West Indies last won a series against Sri Lanka in 2003 when they won the Jamaica Test. Corey Collymore’s seven wickets in the second innings was the clincher. Since then, West Indies have won only two Tests against Sri Lanka. In addition, the series in 2007 and 2018 was drawn.

West Indies poor show against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka and West Indies have played 22 Tests against each other, with Sri Lanka holding a 9-4 advantage with nine Tests drawn. Sri Lanka have won two Tests in the West Indies in 2007 and 2018. In the previous tour, Sri Lanka became the first Asian nation to win in Barbados when they won the Pink Ball Test.

On the other hand, West Indies have not won a single Test in Sri Lanka ever since they started playing them in 1993. Out of 11 Tests in Sri Lanka, West Indies have lost eight and drawn three. Those three drawn Tests were in 2011 when rain ruined the entire series.

West Indies will now have to wait a couple of years more for a series win against Sri Lanka. One hopes that in the next tour, they break both hoodoos by winning a Test in Sri Lanka and also a series against them.
