Yannic Cariah is from Coalmine, a remote town in Sangre Grande. Yannic is a Trinidadian cricketer who was born 22 June 1992. He was coached by former Trinidadian leg spinner Samuel Badree which helped him in refining his leg spin abilities. His abilities also improved by viewing clips of legendary leg spinner Shane Warne. Yannic has represented Trinidad and Tobago in domestic West Indian cricket. Also he has been a part of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He also practiced his batting by studying recordings of legendary batsman Brian Lara. He has been a member of the West Indies cricket team since 2022.

The West Indies Under-19 team that competed in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup which was held in New Zealand, Yannic was selected to play in that tournament. He knocked 110 runs in an innings in the third-place play-off  against Sri Lanka. He was also West Indies’s only player to score a century at the 2010 U-19 World Cup. At the 2010 ICC U-19 World Cup, Yannic became the West Indies U19 team’s second most wicket-taking bowler. In the 2010-11 Regional Four Day Tournament, he had his first-class debut for Trinidad & Tobago against the Windward Islands in February 2011. Yannic  took his first first-class five-wicket haul against Guyana in his fourth match. He took 5 wickets for 46 runs in that match. In the 2016-17 Regional Four Day Tournament, he was the highest run-scorer with 691 runs in just 10 matches. He also scored his career best century of 196 runs.

Yannic Cariah captained the West Indies President’s XI in a friendly tour match against Bangladesh in June 2022. Yannic made his debut for the West Indies One Day International (ODI) team for their series against New Zealand in August 2022. On his ODI debut his stats were 1 wicket for 49 runs. He had not played in a single List A 50-over match since December 2019 before his ODI debut. In his second ODI, he demonstrated his batting prowess by scoring his maiden ODI half-century. He was picked to the West Indies T20I team for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the series against Australia in September 2022.

On 3 October 2022, Yannic made his T20I debut against Australia. His T20I debut match against Australia also marked his returning to the T20 format after a six-year absence since 2016. In his first match against Australia, he ended up with an economical figure of thirteen dot balls in 4 overs. He gave just 15 runs and took an important wicket of Glenn Maxwell. Yannic in his entire International career has played a total of 5 matches including T20 International and One Day International. In 3 ODI matches he has taken 3 wickets with an economy of 6.08. In T20I he has taken only 1 wicket in 2 matches with an economy rate of 7.17. Although Yannic got to play for the West Indies team late in his career, he has potential both with bat and ball.
