On May 12, 2007, he participated in his first One Day International (ODI) game against Bangladesh. In his first ODI, he ended up taking 3 wickets, and in the second ODI against Ireland, he again took 3 wickets. For one month, Piyush had the opportunity to play county cricket for Sussex. In his very first county encounter, he batted ninth and finished with 102 runs and taking a total of 8 wickets. In 2013, Piyush made a comeback to county cricket and was signed by Somerset. Piyush led Gujarat in Ranji Trophy wickets taken for the 2017–18 season in domestic cricket in India. Piyush was also Gujarat’s top wicket-taking bowler in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kings Eleven Punjab was the first team Piyush played for in the Indian Premier League after being acquired by them in 2008. Piyush was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014, and they signed him again in 2018. He was acquired by Chennai Super Kings for the 2020 IPL season, and Mumbai Indians for the 2021 IPL season. Piyush is now playing for the Mumbai Indians after been acquired by the team during the 2023 IPL auctions.
