George Dockrell is a professional cricketer from Ireland. Dockrell was born on 22 July 1992. He is a right-handed batsman and bowls slow left-arm orthodox. Dockrell was a member of the qualification side in 2009 which stood victorious in 2010 U-19 Cricket World Cup. Ireland’s victory in this event qualified them for the 2010 U-19 Cricket World Cup. There Dockrell played his Youth One Day International debut match against South Africa’s U-19s. He went on to play three more Youth One Day Internationals in the event. Dockrell earned his Ireland A debut in 2008. He was asked for the coaching sessions with Somerset County Cricket Club the same year. Dockrell has been representing Ireland since he was 13 years old.
Dockrell has been on the list of Somerset County Cricket Club since he was 15 years old. Somerset made a two-year contract offer to Dockrell on July 18, 2010. He appeared in one County Championship match, but his performances in limited overs games were more regular, with semi-final appearances in the Twenty20 Cup and the Champions Trophy. Dockrell along with three more Irish players were only four that were included to the 12-player team. Dockrell got the chance to set his place in the team as fellow left-arm spinner Murali Kartik left Somerset at the end of the season. Dockrell took 6 wickets and gave just 27 runs in the second innings of Somerset’s inaugural County Championship match against Middlesex, helping his team to a six-wicket victory.

Other than domestic cricket, Dockrell has marked his presence in International cricket as well. He was part of Ireland’s team in Cricket World Cup 2011. Dockrell played his first ever International debut match against Afghanistan in 2010. It was his T20 as well as International debut. Dockrell became the Inter-Provincial Cup’s highest run-scorer and highest wicket taking bowler in 2018. He scored 231 runs and grabbed 10 wickets. At the annual Cricket Ireland Awards in November 2018, he was named Men’s Inter-Provincial Player of the Year. He was chosen to play for the Dublin Chiefs in the first Euro T20 Slam cricket competition in July 2019. Nevertheless, the competition was canceled the next month. Dockrell made his maiden List A century on 4 May 2021 while playing against Northern Knights, during the 2021 Inter-Provincial Cup.
He was selected to Ireland’s team for their one-off Test against Afghanistan in India in January 2019. On March 15, 2019, he played his Ireland Test debut match against Afghanistan. He was picked for Ireland’s team for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualification event in the United Arab Emirates in September 2019. Dockrell in his entire career has played a total of 226 International matches including all the three formats of the game. He has managed to score a total of 1881 runs in all the formats. He has a considerable contribution in the bowling department as well, as he has taken a total of 176 wickets in all the formats together. Dockrell was selected as the captain of the Ireland Wolves side for their red-ball matches against Bangladesh in February 2021. He, however, had to take his name back from the tour the day before the team’s departure for Bangladesh. Ruhan Pretorius was recruited to the squad on the same day, and Harry Tector was named captain. He is one of the best all round cricketers Ireland has ever produced.
