New Zealand cricketer Ajaz Patel was born on 21 October 1988 and plays for Central Districts in domestic cricket. He is a slow left-arm orthodox spinner and made his international debut for New Zealand in October 2018 as well. He also made his debut in the longer format for New Zealand, scalping five wickets in the second innings as well.
However, he moved with his family from Mumbai when he was only eight years old and he was formerly a left-arm pacer as well. In December 2021, in the second match against India, Ajaz Patel became the third bowler to pick all ten wickets in an innings of a Test match as well.
It is also noteworthy that, Patel made his List A debut on 27 December 2015 in the 2015–16 Ford Trophy where he claimed the most wickets in the 2015–16 Plunket Shield season, with 43 scalps as well. He was also the leading wicket-taker in the next season, with 44 wickets as well. However, in April 2018, he was added to the Men’s Domestic Player of the Year at the New Zealand Cricket Awards, where he finished the 2017–18 Plunket Shield season as the leading wicket-taker, with 48 wickets as well which came in nine games. However, in July 2022, Glamorgan signed him to play in their final four matches of the County Championship in England, where he claimed 14 wickets as well.
Meanwhile, in November 2021, he was added to New Zealand’s Test squad for their two-match series in India. In the second Test, he picked up all ten wickets in the first innings of the match, finishing with figures of 10/119 from 47.5 overs as well. He also became the third bowler, after Jim Laker in 1956 and Anil Kumble in 1999, to scalp all ten wickets in an innings of a Test match. In the second innings, Patel picked up another four wickets and finished the match with 14/225, the best bowling figures in a Test match against India as well.
