Wanindu Hasaranga was born on 29th July 1997. He is a right-arm leg break bowler and a right handed batsman who has represented Sri Lanka in all formats of the game. Regarded as one of the promising cricketing talents to come out of Sri Lanka recently, Hasaranga plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League.
At the age of 19, Hasaranga made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2017 after impressing in the domestic circle. He made a dream start to his international career by claiming a hat-trick in his debut match. This achievement made him the first debutant leg spinner to secure a hat-trick. Two years later, in 2019, Hasaranga made his T20I debut against New Zealand. He played a key role in Sri Lanka’s T20I series win in Pakistan as the visitors whitewashed the hosts in a historic first. Due to his performance, Hasaranga was named the player of the series and man of the match in the third and final T20I.

He was named in Sri Lanka’s Test squad against South Africa in 2020. Hasaranga made his Test debut against the Proteas and took four wickets and scored his maiden Test fifty.
Following his stint of match-winning performances, Hasaranga was named in Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In the match against South Africa, he bagged a hat-trick and became the first Sri Lankan to achieve this in T20 World Cup.
Hasaranga made his IPL debut for RCB in 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders. After releasing him, RCB signed him back in 2022 IPL auctions. In the annual ICC Awards held in January 2022, Wanindu Hasaranga was included in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year, and the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year.
Hasaranga studied at Richmond College in Galle. He started his cricket career here as well.
