Vijay Shankar is a professional cricketer, who has represented Indian cricket team Internationally several times. Vijay in domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu. Vijay is a batting all rounder. He is a right handed batsman and a right arm medium pace bowler. Vijay was born on 26 January, 1991 in Tirunelveli region of Tamil Nadu. He was part of the Indian team that played in ICC cricket world cup of 2019 in England. Vijay became the first Indian player to take a wicket on his very first ball in the debut match of the world cup. He has been representing the Tamil Nadu cricket team in domestic cricket since 2012 and is still part of the team.
Vijay in domestic cricket while playing for Tamil Nadu has been given man of the match title a couple of times for his outstanding performance in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy. In a match against Vidarbha in the quarter finals, Vijay scored a century and was awarded with man of the match title. In the semi finals against Maharashtra, Vijay gave an all round performance. He scored 91 runs with the bat and took 2 wickets. He was named man of the match for his performance in the semi finals. In the finals against Karnataka, he scored yet another century in the second innings, but Tamil Nadu ended up losing the match by one innings.

Vijay has been a part of many Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. He has played for Chennai Super Kings 2014 season, for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 season. In the 2018 season of IPL, Vijay was signed by Delhi Capitals for a huge amount of 3.2 crores. In the 2019 season of IPL, he was again acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Currently he is playing for Gujarat Titans, as he was bought by them in the mega auction of 2022 IPL season. He has played a total of 57 IPL matches since his debut in 2014 and his highest score is 63, which he has scored a couple of times, firstly in 2017 and secondly in 2023 season while playing for Gujarat Titans.
Vijay was selected in India’s T20 team for the 2018 Nidahas Trophy. It was on 6 March 2018, when Vijay played his T20 International debut match for India against Sri Lanka. His first International wicket came in the second match against Bangladesh, when he eliminated Mushfiqur Rehman. In the same match he was awarded with man of the match title. Against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), on 18 January, 2019, he played his One Day International (ODI) debut match. Later in the 2019 ICC world cup, he was named in India’s team. He became the third player in the world to take a wicket on the very first ball in the world cup debut match. Vijay is a promising cricketer, who can play an important all round role in the match.
