Suresh Raina is a professional cricketer, who used to play for Indian cricket team Internationally. Suresh Raina has represented the Indian cricket team in all the three formats of the game. He used to play for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. He also served as a stand-in captain on occasions. Suresh was born on 27 November 1986 in the Muradnagar region of Uttar Pradesh, India. Suresh is a left handed batsman who is capable of scoring runs in quick succession. He used to bat in the middle order for the Indian team. Suresh is the youngest player to ever become captain of the Indian cricket team. He also is the first batsman to score a hundred in all the three formats of the game. He was part of the Indian team that won 2011 ICC world cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. 

In the 2010 ICC T20 world cup, Raina became the first batsman ever to score a hundred in a T20 world cup. He did that against South Africa, scoring 101 runs. Raina attended Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, after he shifted to Lucknow to pursue his dream. He played his Ranji Trophy debut match for Uttar Pradesh against Assam at the age of 16 in 2003. His List A cricket debut took place in 2005 against Madhya Pradesh. He played in India’s under 19 team that went to Pakistan for the under 19 Asia Cup tournament. He then got selected in India’s under 19 team that played in the 2004 under 19 world cup. In the year 2005, Raina played his debut first class match. He ended the season with 685 runs with an average of 53.75.

Suresh Raina was awarded with the title of best fielder by the BCCI ahead of Indian Premier League in 2010. Raina was part of Chennai Super Kings, where he scored a crucial half century in the finals and helped his team to lift the cup by beating Mumbai Indians. He was consecutively selected by cricinfo playing XI for his outstanding performances. In 2014, Raina while playing for CSK scored 87 runs off just 25 balls against Kings Eleven Punjab (KXIP). In 2016, Raina was bought by Gujarat Lions as CSK was suspended. Raina was appointed as the captain of GL. Raina scored 399 runs in that season. Raina left the tournament because of his child’s birth in the season 9 and it was the first time when Raina didn’t appear in any of the matches in IPL’s 9 seasons.  

Raina was one of the best fielders in the world during his time. Raina was selected in the team India for their tour of Sri Lanka in 2012. In the 2nd One Day International, Raina was named man of the match for his match winning innings. He scored a century against England in the 2012-13 series, and it was considered as one of the best ODI innings by ESPNcricinfo. Raina has scored a total of 7987 International runs including all the three formats in his entire career. Most of his runs came from ODI’s. He has played 226 ODI’s for team India and has scored 5615 runs. He is still considered as one of the best IPL players of all time, as he has delivered many match winning performances for his team. In 205 IPL matches, Raina has scored 5528 runs. Raina is ranked 5th with most runs in IPL history, despite getting retired. On August 15, 2020, he announced retirement from all the formats of the game.
