Ambati Rayudu is an Indian cricketer who was born on September 23, 1985. He is the captain of the Baroda cricket team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. He is a right-handed batsman, who bats in the middle order. He played for India’s national cricket team between 2013 and 2019. He was also a part time wicket-keeper and  used to bowl right-arm off breaks. He participated in 61 limited overs matches for the team. He plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Hyderabad in domestic cricket . On September 23, 1985, Ambati was born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. Sambasiva Rao, his father, used to work at the archives store. Ambati finished his education at the Sainikpuri-based Bhavan’s Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya.

Ambati scored a double century and a century in the same match and became the youngest player in Ranji Trophy history to do so. In the 2002–03 Ranji Trophy, Ambati represented Hyderabad in all the matches and finished third on the list of top run scorers with 698 runs at an average of 69.80 runs per game. Ambati Rayudu scored 210 and 159 not out against Andhra while playing in the championship and only played his third Ranji game. During that year, in Nairobi, he hit an not out century for India A. In the 2004–2005 Ranji Trophy, he played in seven games, averaging just 11.93, while in the Ranji One–Day Trophy, he played in four games, scoring three fifties.

Ambati got into a fight with Hyderabad player Arjun Yadav in the 2005 Ranji Trophy while representing Andhra, when Yadav hit him with a stump. After a match in the 2012 Indian Premier League, Rayudu used vulgar and abusive comments towards an opponent’s player named Harshal Patel, for which he was fined 100% of his match pay. Throughout his career, Rayudu has engaged in altercations with both players and umpires. For the T20I series against England in December 2012, Ambati was chosen by the newly established selection panel, which was led by Sandeep Patil, who had previously worked for the ICL. Due to Manoj Tiwari’s injury he was replaced by Ambati.

In the ODI and T20I squads for the tour of England in July 2014, Ambati was selected. He participated in the third one-day international at Nottingham, where he top-scored with 64 not out and claimed his first ODI wicket—that of England captain Alastair Cook. On July 24, 2013, he played his debut match in One Day Internationals. In the subsequent series against Sri Lanka, Ambati made his first ODI century, striking an unbeaten 121 runs in the second ODI at Ahmedabad, leading India to the mark of 275. He shared plus 100 partnerships during the game with both Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli, and for that knock he was awarded man of the match. Ambati got to play 55 ODI matches for India, and made 1694 runs. He, right from the beginning was a player full of potential, but his career as an International player ended soon.
