Sheldon Cottrell is a Jamaican international cricketer who plays for the West Indies cricket team. Sheldon was born 19 August 1989.  His birth place is Kingston situated in Jamaica. Cottrell plays for Leeward Islands in first class cricket. Cottrell played his Test Debut match in November 2013 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata against India in the final Test of Sachin Tendulkar. His signature move is that, he march and salute to the pavilion while opening his arms to the heavens (commonly a dab) whenever he takes wicket, as he was a Jamaica Defence Force soldier, and was among the army workforce manning the pitch during the fifth ODI against India at Sabina Park in 2011.

Cottrell played his T20 International debut match in March 2014 against England. It was on January 25, 2015, when cottrell was part of his One Day International (ODI) debut match for the West Indies against South Africa. However he was in the team, but wasn’t included in the playing eleven. Cottrell was included in the team for the 2015 West Indies World Cup. He played his ODI debut match against New Zealand on December 23, 2017 after a two-year absence. In May 2018, he was chosen in the Professional Cricket League drafts to play for the Leeward Islands national cricket team for the 2018-19 season.

In the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada tournament on June 3, 2018, Cottrell was selected in the players’ list for the Vancouver Knights. Cottrell in that tournament took sixteen wickets in just eight matches. He became the tournament’s leading wicket-taking bowler. He got selected to the West Indies team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April 2019 which took place in England. He finished the tournament as the West Indies’ leading wicket-taker. Cottrell took twelve wickets in nine matches. He was sold to Kings Eleven Punjab, before the Indian Premier League auction of 2020. Later before the 2021 auction, he was not retained by the team for the IPL 2021 season.

Cottrell was selected by the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots side for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in July 2020. Cottrell was selected as one of four reserve players in the West Indies’ cricket team for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup In September 2021. Cottrell got the chance to play in July 2022, as he was signed by the Dambulla Giants for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League. Cottrell in his entire career till now has played a total of 84 International matches including all the three formats of the game. Most of his matches are from T20 format where he has taken 52 wickets with an economy of 8.13. He has played 38 ODI where he has taken 52 wickets with an economy of 5.87. He got to play only 2 Test matches and he managed to get 2 wickets in that.
