Mark Wood is a professional cricketer, who plays for England’s national team Internationally. Mark is a right arm fast bowler. He is capable of bowling consistently at the speed of 140 km/hr and higher. He has represented England in all the three formats of the game. In domestic cricket, Mark plays for Durham. Mark was born on 11 January 1990 in Ashington, Northumberland region of England. Mark has been a part of Indian Premier League earlier and played for Chennai Super Kings. Mark since 2020, is considered as one of the fastest bowlers in the world, as his average Test speed is 143 km/hr. 

Mark’s county cricket debut match was against Norfolk in 2008 while playing for Northumberland. He also played in a few minor county tournaments for Northumberland between 2008 and 2010. Mark, in first class cricket played his debut match against Durham MCCU while playing for Durham in 2011. Against Northamptonshire, he played his List A debut match for Durham. It was in 2018, when Mark was selected by Chennai Super Kings for the Indian Premier League (IPL) for INR 1.5 crores. However, he played only one match for CSK in the 2018 season. After 4 years of absence from IPL, Mark was bought by Lucknow Super Giants in 2022 . Also, in the 2022 season of The Hundred, he was bought by London Spirits.

Mark’s name was called up for England’s tour to the West Indies for the Test series in 2015. However, he didn’t get to play in any of the matches. It was against Ireland, when Mark played his One Day International debut match on 8 May, 2015. Later in the same year, he played his debut Test match for England against New Zealand. He took a total of 6 wickets in the series of 3 Test matches. His performance was quite impactful against New Zealand. In the same series against New Zealand, Mark played his debut T20 International (T20I) match on 23 June, 2015. He took 3 wickets and gave 26 runs in his first T20 match. He was selected for the Ashes series of 2015. His performance was noticeable, as he took a total of 9 wickets in the series.

Due to Jofra Archer and James Anderson’s injury, they were out of England’s tour of South Africa in 2019-20. Mark was included in the series. He had an all round performance in the first Test, as he scored 42 runs off just 23 balls and took 3 wickets. Mark took a total of 9 wickets in the fourth Test of the series, including 5 in the first innings. Mark became part of England’s team for the 2021 ICC T20 world cup. He also played in the 2021-22 Ashes series. In the 2022 ICC T20 world cup that took place in Australia, Mark was selected in England’s team. He played all the matches of the tournament except semi finals and finals due to injury. He was named in 6 players, who won both the 2019 and 2022 ICC world cup.
