Deepak Chahar is an Indian cricketer who plays the role of a right-arm medium-pace bowler. He was born on August 7, 1992, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Chahar made his international debut for the Indian cricket team in August 2018, playing in both the ODI and T20 formats. Chahar was trained by his father/coach who took early retirement from Air Force to dedicate himself to coaching Deepak and his younger brother, Rahul. In 2010, the seamer made his first-class debut to register a sensational figure of 8 for 10, against Hyderabad. Deepak Chahar showcased the brilliant ability to swing the new ball both ways and troubled a lot of batters.

Deepak Chahar has a long history of injuries, he suffered from a quite number of injuries from 2010 to 2016 and his father worked on his fitness regime to make him a stronger and fitter bowler. In 2016, he got picked by the Rising Pune Supergiants whom he represented for two seasons. But it wasn’t until the 2018 Indian Premier League that Chahar showed his best self under MS Dhoni’s mentorship at the Chennai Super Kings. He took 10 wickets in the first season for CSK where his tight lines and length proved to be very effective. The next season saw Deepak picking 22 wickets and finishing third in the purple cap race.

Apart from his bowling abilities, Chahar is also a capable lower-order batsman. He has shown glimpses of his batting skills on several occasions, contributing vital runs and has taken the Indian team to unlikely victories. With his consistent performances and promising skills, Deepak has established himself as a key player in the Indian cricket team and the Chennai Super Kings. Chahar has proven that he is a sort of a bowler who is the most effective with the new ball in the powerplay play, he will look to cement his spot in the longer format as well in the coming years.
