Chetan Sakariya is a professional cricketer. He has represented his country India on the international stage. Currently in domestic cricket he plays for Saurashtra. Cheta was born on February 28, 1998. It was in July 2021, when Chetan played his cricketing debut match for India on the world stage. Chetan is from the Gujarati village of Vartej, which is 15 kilometers away from Bhavnagar. Senior member of the Saurashtra team Sheldon Jackson helped Chetan a lot in training. Sheldon once purchased a new shoe for him. Because of that kind gesture of Sheldon, Sakariya finally had the opportunity to visit the MRF Pace Foundation at that point. The two then developed a close friendship.

A heartbreaking incident happened, while Chetan’s brother was playing in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021. His brother Rahul committed suicide. Rahul and Chetan were very close to each other, and that’s why in loving memory of his brother, Rajasthan Royals sent Chetan a jersey having R.K engraved on it. The message “miss you bro” is also written on the jersey. At the time of Covid 19 pandemic, Chetan’s father passed away on 9 May, 2021. It was on February 22, 2018, when Chetan played his List A debut match for Saurashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the 2017–18 season.

On November 20, 2018, he played his first-class debut match for Saurashtra in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, picking up five wickets in the first innings. It was on February 21, 2019, when Chetan played his first Twenty20 match for Saurashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for the 2018–19 season. Before the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL), in February 2021, Chetan was purchased by the Rajasthan Royals for 1.2 crores at the IPL auction for players. Chetan was selected for both the ODI and T20I teams by India in June 2021 in preparation for their series against Sri Lanka. On July 23, 2021, he played his first ODI for India against Sri Lanka. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was his first international wicket, and he ended the match with 2 wickets for 38 runs. 

At the time of auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League season, Chetan was bought by Delhi Capitals in February. Hardships from which Chetan went through has made him a persistent and dedicated cricketer. He was able to make his place in India’s national team, which is commendable. Chetan is a left arm medium pace bowler, which gives him an edge over the batsmen. In his entire Indian Premier League career, he has played a total of 18 matches for several franchises, and managed to take 19 wickets in total with an economy rate of 8.41. Chetan is a capable bowler and can take wickets instantly at the start of the innings.
