The Men in Red, for their part, made their first signing of the auction, capturing the signature of towering English bowler Reece Topley for a pittance of 1.90 crores.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, one of the most famous IPL teams, entered the IPL 2023 auction with a settled squad after retaining their core players earlier this year. They released only five players, the fewest of any franchise, ahead of the December 23 auction in Kochi. The Bangalore-based franchise, which has one of the most devoted fan groups in cricket, entered the auction with a budget of 8.75 crores. While other major names like the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians made headlines after paying significant money on Ben Stokes and Cameron Green, respectively, RCB was rather quiet throughout the early rounds of the auction.
The Men in Red, for their part, made their first signing of the auction, capturing the signature of towering English bowler Reece Topley for a pittance of 1.90 crores. The left-arm bowler had a fantastic return to Limited Overs cricket for England in 2022. He was particularly impressive against India in the white ball series. He seems set to be an excellent addition to a star-studded bowling side that includes Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood. Will Jacks, a 24-year-old all-rounder from England, was another notable addition. The Englishman is a competent batter who can hit the ball well. He was purchased for 3.20 crores as the club put their faith in the young Englishman to fill in for the injured Glenn Maxwell.
