Virat Kohli has been ‘struggling’ for the last two years in all formats of the game. His Test average has dipped to below 30. On the other hand, his ODI and T20I records are actually not bad since 2019. After not hitting a century in any format in 2020 and 2021, there was hope that Virat Kohli’s luck would change. The three-match ODI series against the West Indies offered Virat Kohli his best hope. He had an average in excess of 65 in ODIs against them. Virat Kohli’s tally of nine centuries against them is the most he has against any side in ODI cricket, closely followed by Australia with eight.

But, the three-match series against the West Indies in Ahmedabad has been an epic struggle for him. After managing scores of 8 and 18, the third ODI offered him the last chance. But, he failed miserably. In the fourth over bowled by Alzarri Joseph, India was in trouble. Rohit Sharma was the first to go as he was cleaned up by a full delivery that nipped back in. The Indian skipper went for 13. In came Virat Kohli. He left the first ball but disaster struck the second ball. Joseph bowled a full ball on the pads and Kohli went for the flick. He got a faint tickle and Shai Hope took a good catch. Thus, Kohli’s miserable series has ended on a bad note.

Virat Kohli Now in a Slump?

This was the third time that he had fallen for a duck against the West Indies in ODIs. Thus, Virat Kohli now has extreme fortunes against the Windies. He not only has the best average but he now has the joint-most ducks against them. He has three ducks, which is level with England. In his entire career, Virat Kohli has been dismissed for a duck 15 times in 260 matches. Here is a breakup of his duck tales against all opponents.

However, Virat Kohli has ended his series with an average of 8.66. This is only the second time in his career that he has had a series average of under 10 in his entire 13-year playing career. His worst remains an average of 4.33 which he had in the three-match ODI series against Pakistan in 2012/13. In that series, his highest score was 0,6 and 7 as India lost the series 1-2. This is the worst bilateral series that he has had for a long time.
