As the Women’s World Cup is around the corner, Australia got a big blow as their fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck has been ruled out of the ongoing Women’s Ashes as well as the upcoming Women’s World Cup. Notably, she has sustained a stress fracture of the navicular in her right foot.

The youngster got injured after Australia’s win in the first T20I against England and Darcie Brown replaced her in the playing XI for the rain-hit second game on Saturday (January 22). But the increasing pain and scans have confirmed the nature and extent of the injury as well. Notably, she got the same injury earlier too that ruled her out of the 2020 T20 World Cup at home as well. At that time, Tayla Vlaeminck was out of action for 10 months.

Tayla Vlaeminck has played a key role for Australia so far

“Tayla has sustained an acute navicular stress fracture. She had a similar injury in early 2020; this fracture completely healed and Tayla made a successful return to play to international cricket in March 2021,” team doctor Phillipa Inge said.

Inge again shared: “Tayla reported a return in mid-foot pain and subsequent images have confirmed a recurrent stress fracture of the navicular. The Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria medical teams will work collaboratively on the immediate management over the coming days and a subsequent return to play plan. She will be unavailable for the Ashes Series and ODI World Cup.”

However, the Australian selectors will take a call soon on whether they need a replacement of Tayla Vlaeminck in the squad in due course for the upcoming mega event. Australia, who are currently leading the multi-format Ashes series, have Georgia Wareham, Sophie Molineux and Beth Mooney out with injuries as well.
