His (Kohli) disinterest in leading T20Is prompted my suggestion to step down from all white-ball cricket formats, advocating separate captains for white-ball and red-ball cricket.” Ganguly acknowledged playing a part in encouraging Rohit Sharma to take up the captaincy role. Reflecting on his BCCI presidency, Ganguly emphasized, “My appointment was for the betterment of Indian cricket. This incident is just a small part of that commitment.”
