Shakib Al Hasan was recently named as the Player of the Month by the International Cricket Council. The Bangladesh star has been one of the best players for the side in his 14-year international career. In his playing record, Shakib Al Hasan has amassed plenty of records for Bangladesh when it comes to batting and bowling. Against Zimbabwe and Australia, Shakib has been in fine form with both the bat and ball.

In 2021, Shakib has been in fine form with both bat and ball. The left-hander hit the fifties and took a five-wicket haul in ODIs against Zimbabwe. Bangladesh has dominated the T20I series against Australia, with Shakib playing an integral part in their win. His consistency has put him on the cusp of a new record ahead of the fifth and final Twenty20 International on Monday.

Shakib Al Hasan on the cusp of a new record

Shakib has taken 98 wickets in Twenty20 Internationals. He is only two wickets away from becoming the second individual in history to take 100 wickets in all three formats. Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka is the first individual to take 100 wickets in all three formats. The Sri Lankan has taken 101 wickets in Tests, 107 in Twenty20 Internationals, and 338 in ODIs. Malinga is the only bowler in history to have taken four consecutive wickets twice in international cricket. One came in an ODI and the other in a T20I.

Apart from Malinga, Tim Southee and Shakib are on the cusp of securing this historic feat. While Shakib has 98 wickets in addition to 215 and 277 Test and ODI wickets, Southee has 99 wickets in T20Is. Southee has 314 Test wickets and 190 in ODIs. Shakib has one more chance in the Twenty20 International while Southee will get plenty of opportunities in the upcoming series against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Building up for 2021 ICC World T20

All teams are eagerly gearing up for the ICC World T20 in 2021 in the UAE. West Indies finished their preparations for the ICC World T20 during the recent series against Pakistan. In the four-match series, Pakistan won 1-0. Three out of the four matches were washed out due to rain. Before the series against Pakistan, West Indies lost to South Africa but got the better of Australia.

Australia, on the other hand, has endured some terrible times in the Twenty20 International series in West Indies and Bangladesh. They have lost a series for the first time to Bangladesh in their history. Against West Indies, they now have a negative head-to-head record of 6-10, having lost 1-4.

India will begin their ICC World T20 preparation by playing the IPL immediately after the end of the England tour. The West Indies players will also play the Caribbean Premier League. England is playing a series against Pakistan while South Africa will play a series against Sri Lanka. After the end of the IPL, the ICC World T20 will be played in the UAE. The tournament was postponed by one year and will not be played in India due to the coronavirus pandemic.
