Sachin Tendulkar conveyed his joy over Virat Kohli surpassing his record for the most ODI hundreds, expressing satisfaction that this achievement remains within the Indian cricket fraternity. Witnessing Kohli secure his 50th ODI century at the Wankhede Stadium, Tendulkar recognized the emotional significance for Kohli, his longtime idol. Tendulkar emphasised that Kohli’s journey is far from complete, anticipating a significant amount of cricket, runs, and unwavering dedication to serving the country.

Tendulkar expressed, “I am delighted he has achieved this milestone. I am confident that this journey is not concluded. There is ample cricket ahead for him, plenty of runs to be scored, and a sustained eagerness to achieve more for the country. I am pleased that this record remains with India. I have consistently asserted that the record belongs to India, and it continues to do so.”

Notably, Kohli also surpassed Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup, accumulating 765 runs in the 2023 World Cup. While both cricket legends secured the Player of the Tournament award in their respective editions, Kohli’s exceptional performance has established a new benchmark.

However, uncertainties surround Kohli’s participation in white-ball cricket for the 2024 T20 World Cup, as he has expressed a desire for a break from this format. Despite his involvement in the upcoming Test series against South Africa, Kohli’s decision raises strategic questions about India’s approach to the T20 World Cup.
