The talented Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman Zadran, who was born on 28th March 2001 was the first player to play international cricket born in the 21st century. He made headlines very early in his career when became the youngest player to take a five-wicket haul in a One Day International match at the age of 16 years and 325 days. However, along with this, he was one of the eleven players to have played in Afghanistan's first ever Test match against India, in June 2018.
The right-arm off break bowler made his List A debut for Speen Ghar Region in the 2017 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament on 10 August 2017 as well. He made his Twenty20 debut for Boost Defenders in the 2017 Shpageeza Cricket League on 11 September in the same year whereas in November 2017, Comilla Victorians signed him for 2017–18 Bangladesh Premier League season.
However, his stunning bowling not only gave him chances in BPL but also in England too. In May 2018, Hampshire County Cricket Club signed him to play in the 2018 t20 Blast tournament in England. Middlesex County Cricket Club signed him for the 2019 T20 Blast tournament in England. He again played for Cumilla Warriors in the 2019–20 Bangladesh Premier League.
Apart from these, he played a key role for Nangarhar Leopards' squad in the first edition of the Afghanistan Premier League in 2018 where he was the joint-highest wicket-taker, with twelve dismissals in nine matches.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman made his International debut on 5th December, 2017 against Ireland. He made his debut in the shortest format on 5th February 2018 against Zimbabwe whereas his Test debut came against India.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman has a successful Indian Premier League season. In January 2018, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) bought him. And, he became the youngest cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League when he made his debut at the age of 17 years and 11 days on 8th April 2018.
However, in February 2021, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him in the auction ahead of the season.
His stunning show has earned him a place in the prestigious Big Bash League as well. In the 2020–21 Big Bash League season, he took his first fifer in T20 cricket. He registered 5 for 15 while playing for the Brisbane Heat against the Hobart Hurricanes.
He has tasted a fair share of success in the International cricket. He was the leading wicket-taker in the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup where he claimed twenty wickets in five matches. His brilliance helped Afghanistan win their maiden ACC Under-19 Cup title. Sonn after, he earned a maiden call-up in Afghanistan's One Day International (ODI) team in December 2017. On his debut, he took 4 wickets for 24 runs from 10 overs, and helped his side win by 138 runs. He was awarded 'Man of the match' as well.
In December 2017, he was named in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad. On 16 February 2018 against Zimbabwe at Sharjah, he claimed his maiden ODI five-wicket haul and became the youngest player ever to do so as well.
During the final of the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier against the West Indies, he picked up 4/43 in 9.5 overs, helping Afghanistan to restrict the West Indies within 204. And, Afghanistan chased the target of 205 losing only 3 wickets with ten overs in hand. With this, they clinched their first ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier title. He was also the joint-leading wicket-taker in the tournament, along with Rashid Khan and Safyaan Sharif of Scotland with 17 wickets each as well.
In his Test debut, against India, on 14 June 2018, Mujeeb became the sixth player, and first for Afghanistan, to make his first-class debut in a Test match as well. In September 2021, he was named in the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad. During their first match against Scotland, Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked up his first five-wicket haul in T20I cricket, conceding twenty runs.
