Big Bash League 2022: Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Sixers to enter Final

Perth Scorchers defeated the Sydney Sixers by 48 runs to continue their magnificent form in the Big Bash League as they reached the final in grand style.

Josh Inglis and Kurtis Patterson’s stunning fifties, combined with an all-round bowling performance continued Perth Scorchers’ magnificent Big Bash League season. They defeated the Sydney Sixers by 48 runs to enter the final of the tournament. Sydney Sixers, on the other hand, will face the winner of the Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Thunder game on Sunday. The final will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 28.

Perth Scorchers chose to bat on a good surface at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. Josh Inglis and Kurtis Patterson were in fine form, with Patterson smashing two fours in one over off Nathan Lyon. Patterson and Inglis upped the ante with two sixes as the partnership went past fifty. Both Patterson and Inglis continued the onslaught.

Patterson notched up his fifty and Inglis followed suit with a six off Steve O’Keefe to reach his milestone of 33 balls. Patterson hit another six to look ominous but Hayden Kerr broke the 120-run stand in just the 13th over. Inglis continued to smash the Sydney Sixers as he hit Ben Dwarshius for three fours in one over. At 157/1 in 17 overs, Perth Scorchers looked good for 200. But, Inglis was stumped for 79. Mitchell Marsh hit three fours off Sean Abbott but Sydney Sixers tightened up. Only 39 runs came in four overs as Perth Scorchers ended on 189/3.

Sydney Sixers fail to get going vs Perth Scorchers

Sydney Sixers started the chase on a wrong note, with Jason Behrendorff taking an early wicket. Jhye Richardson then sent back Josh Philippe and when Behrendorff sent back Jordan Silk, Perth Scorchers were on top. Ashton Agar also struck and at 27/4 in seven overs, the game was nearly up.

Agar got the wicket of Dan Christian and at the halfway stage, Sydney Sixers were 41/5. Immediately after the break, Moises Henriques was sent on his way by Richardson for 17. The wickets tumbled for the Sixers but Dwarshius refused to go down without a fight. He smashed two fours and a six off Peter Hatzoglou. Hayden Kerr also hit a six off Richardson as the duo built a good stand.

Andrew Tye got the wickets of Hayden Kerr and Lyon as Sydney Sixers were 99/9 in the 17th over. Dwarshius hit a 111-meter six off Behrendorff and neared his fifty. There was carnage in the 19th over. Dwarshius hit two sixes and three fours to reach a fifty off 24 balls. But, Hatzoglou ended the entertainment when Dwarshius fell for 66.

Sydney Sixers will take the winner of the Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Thunder on Sunday. The tournament will then resume on Wednesday with the final on Friday.
