Australia will play a full series in Pakistan after 24 years, with Rawalpindi set to host one Test and the entire ODI and T20I series while Karachi and Lahore will host the other Tests.
It is finally official. Australia will embark on a historic full-tour to Pakistan after 24 years. Cricket Australia has given the green signal for the tour. In 1998, Australia toured Pakistan and whitewashed them 3-0 in the ODIs, and won the Test series 1-0. Australia will play three Tests, three ODIs, and one Twenty20 International. The tour will begin from March 4 in Rawalpindi with the three Tests and it will end on April 5. This will be an indication that some Australian players might not be available for the IPL which begins from March 27.
The tour will begin with a Test match in March in Rawalpindi. After that, Australia will play two Tests in Karachi and Lahore on March 12 and March 21. After that, Australia will play the entire ODI and T20I leg in Rawalpindi from March 29 to April 5. The Test series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle while the ODIs will be part of the ODI Super League.
Pakistan vs Australia Series has undergone some tweaks with both Cricket Australia and PCB agreeing. Australia’s players will undergo their coronavirus isolation in Australia itself. They will head to the country by chartered flight and will isolate for one day in Rawalpindi. They will then be allowed to practice at the Pindi stadium itself. The Australian ODI team is expected to follow the same drill.

In February-March, there will be Pakistan Day rehearsals. Thus, all the matches in March will be played in Rawalpindi so that there is no logistical and operational challenge. PCB CEO Faisal Hasnain stated that this tour would be a big boost for the country. The abrupt cancellations of the New Zealand and England tours had hurt the nation.
“We are pleased that the Cricket Australia Board has formally approved their side’s five-week tour itinerary. They confirmed that their best available players will visit for the first time in 24 years. We are really excited to host Pat Cummins and his players. We look forward to a competitive series that will comprise three Tests, three ODIs, and a T20I. While Australia will arrive at the back of strong performances in their home series against England, our team has been playing excellent cricket resulting in our players sweeping the ICC Awards,” Faisal Hasnain said.
