The inaugural match of the prestigious ODI World Cup 2023 is currently underway, but the attendance at the Narendra Modi Stadium is surprisingly low, considering its massive seating capacity. According to several reports, there are currently only around 4,000 spectators present in the stadium during the first innings. Expectations were high for a substantial crowd turnout for this curtain-raiser fixture on Thursday, especially since the Book My Show portal, the official ticket booking partner of the BCCI, indicated that more than 50 percent of tickets were booked, with many stands reported as sold out.

However, the on-ground situation paints a different picture, leaving many on social media puzzled. Questions arise as to why the ticket data provided by Book My Show doesn’t seem to align with the actual attendance at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The world-class stadium boasts a seating capacity of 132,000, but currently, only a fraction of the seats are occupied. One contributing factor could be that this inaugural fixture falls on a working day, with people from various walks of life, including those in offices, schools, and colleges, being occupied during daytime hours.

Furthermore, the scorching weather conditions in Ahmedabad, with a maximum temperature of 34°C, may have discouraged many from attending in person, opting to watch the game from the comfort of their homes. It is anticipated that the evening hours will see a significant influx of spectators. The second innings could witness a larger crowd in the stands, creating a more vibrant atmosphere at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Nevertheless, there is criticism directed at the BCCI for not putting in substantial efforts to attract larger crowds. Many are left wondering if the BCCI genuinely values the fans and the game itself.
