Despite reassurances from Venkatesh Prasad that he had no vendetta towards KL Rahul, the former Indian bowler launched a new attack on the out-of-form batter on Monday. After being retained by Rohit Sharma and Co. for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Sunday, the former Indian bowler has launched a new barrage at opener Rahul. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed India’s lineup for the third and fourth Tests of the high-profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy, just hours after India smashed Pat Cummins and Co. in the second Test of the four-match series. Despite his batting dip in Test cricket, Rahul managed to save his spot in the BCCI’s selection for the rest of the series.

Following the selection announcement, Prasad posted a lengthy tweet in which he highlighted Rahul’s overseas Test record. “KL Rahul is thought to have an exceptional overseas Test record. But, statistics show differently. In 56 innings, he has a test average of 30. He has six overseas centuries but has followed them up with a spate of low scores, which is why he is averaging 30. Let’s have a look at a few more,” Prasad tweeted.  “And if overseas performance is a criterion, Ajinkya Rahane despite being out of form and also inconsistent before being dropped had one of the best overseas Test records, averaging over 40 overseas in 50 test matches. Was out of form and dropped,” Prasad observed.

Since the beginning of 2018, Rahul has had six 50-plus scores with an average of 25.82 in 48 innings. Rahul has an average of 33.44 in 47 Tests for India. In his last ten Test innings, the former Indian vice-captain has failed to score more than 23 runs. In India’s easy win over Australia in the second Test at Delhi, the 30-year-old produced forgettable scores of 17 and one.
