Murali Vijay, a former India opener who currently plays for Tamil Nadu, has stated his intention to further his cricketing career but will look for opportunities elsewhere. Vijay’s comments are a playful jab at the BCCI, in which he expresses his frustration at being entirely disregarded by the board’s standard selection process and his desire to try his luck abroad. Vijay has scored 339 runs in 17 ODIs and 3928 runs in 61 Test games for India. His aforementioned remarks expressed his view on the necessity for a shift in how people view a player’s age. The last time Vijay played for India was in Perth, Australia, during the 2018 tour. After a terrible run of form, he was later fired and never came back. After being rejected from the Test team, he did play County Cricket in England for Essex and fared okay.

“I am almost done with BCCI and looking for opportunities abroad. I want to play a little bit of competitive cricket”, Vijay said speaking to former India women’s team coach WV Raman on Wednesdays with WV, a weekly show on Sportstar. “After 30 in India, it’s a taboo (smiles). I think people see us as 80-year-olds walking on the street. The media should also address it differently. I feel you are peaking in your 30s. Sitting here right now, I feel I can bat the best way I can. But unfortunately, the opportunities were fewer, and I had to search for chances outside. I honestly feel as a person, you can only do what’s in your hand. You can’t control the uncontrollable. Whatever happened,” Vijay added.

Vijay became a permanent Test opener for India in 2012-13

It was a selectorial gamble based more on promise than domestic cricket runs when Vijay was finally awarded another complete Test series against Australia in 2012–2013. Vijay was impressed with his improved back-foot play, his capacity to focus and playtime, and his ability to turn the punt into a jackpot by scoring back-to-back 150s. The performances against Australia increased his total of 150+ scores to seven out of 13 first-class hundreds, earning him an ODI recall for the 2013 Champions Trophy in England. However, poor performance in the pre-tournament games prevented him from being included in the starting eleven.
