The IPL 2021 has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. With the suspension of the IPL, the BCCI and several other cricket boards are trying their best to ensure players return home safely. The Indian players are slowly returning back to their hometowns while the Australian players are in Maldives. England’s players have managed to return back home while New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies players might follow suit. Bangladesh’s two players have begun a 14-day quarantine.

However, MS Dhoni has won hearts by his selfless act after the suspension of the IPL. According to a report in the Indian Express, MS Dhoni has delayed his departure to Ranchi. The report quoted one Chennai Super Kings official who stated that Dhoni wants to ensure all his teammates reach home safely. It is only after that he will go to Ranchi. The report further said that Dhoni might board the flight to Ranchi on Thursday. The Chennai Super Kings side was in Delhi playing their IPL games.

Chennai Super Kings were also impacted by the coronavirus, with Michael Hussey, L Balaji and CEO Kasi Viswanathan testing positive for the coronavirus.

Decent performances by Chennai Super Kings

The three-time IPL champions put up a great show in IPL 2021 after they suffered an opening loss to Delhi Capitals. Following that loss, Chennai Super Kings strung together a superb performance. They won five consecutive games. Deepak Chahar took four wickets in two games against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede stadium. With the bat, Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad were on top.

In one game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Ravindra Jadeja hit 37 runs in the final over bowled by Harshal Patel. Jadeja hit a 24-ball fifty, took three wickets including Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. His all-round exploits saw him win the Man of the Match.

In the game against Mumbai Indians, Ambati Rayudu smashed 72 off 27 balls as Chennai Super Kings notched up 218/4. In response, Kieron Pollard put on a brilliant show by hammering 87 off 34 balls as Mumbai Indians achieved their highest successful run-chase.

The BCCI is exploring a possibility of a September window to resume the IPL but the chances are very slim considering the proximity of the ICC World T20.
