Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni is considered one of the greatest players in the world of cricket. Dhoni enjoys a great fan-following on the back of excellent performances for Team India in the past, as well as his sublime gameplay in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for CSK. The 39-year-old became the first skipper to lead a side in 200 T20 matches when he walked down for the toss of the Chennai-based franchise’s league encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL 2021. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli stands second with 128 appearances as captain for the franchise.

The game against RR further marked the 200th instance of Dhoni leading the Super Kings. The veteran cricketer recently played his 200th match for CSK in the franchise’s previous IPL 2021 league game against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The Chennai-based franchise went on to emerge victorious by a margin of six wickets. The match against PBKS was the 39-year-old’s 199th match as captain.

Only Captain To Have Won All 3 Major ICC Trophies

Dhoni’s captaincy numbers include his 24 matches in the Champions League T20 from 2010 to 2014. The 39-year-old missed a couple of games back in 2011 with an elbow injury that he sustained in a game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Suresh Raina was the captain of CSK for one match, with Dhoni focussing on his duties behind the stumps.

The former India captain is the only cricketer to have won all three major ICC trophies during his reign. Dhoni is further the first captain to win both the IPL and Champions League T20. The Champions League T20 is now defunct. Not only this, the 39-year-old is the only player to have won the IPL and the CLT20 twice.

The game against RR further marks the 13th anniversary of Dhoni’s captaincy debut for the Chennai-based franchise.
