In a big blow to England cricket team, pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out from all forms of cricket for the rest of the year because of a recurrence of a stress fracture of his right elbow. The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Thursday. Archer will miss the ongoing Test series against India, the rescheduled ICC T20 World Cup, Indian Premier League 2021 and the Ashes.

Archer was forced to pull out of the India tour earlier this year and then subsequently missed the Indian Premier League. He went under the knife in May to remove a bone fragment from his elbow. Although he returned to the cricket field for his county side, Sussex, in recent weeks, he soon had to go for further scans because of increasing discomfort in his elbow. And the scans revealed that he had suffered a recurrence of the stress fracture that first became apparent in England’s tour to South Africa in 2020.

“The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that England fast bowler Jofra Archer underwent further scans on his injured right elbow last week. The scans revealed that he has suffered a recurrence of a stress fracture of his right elbow,” confirmed the press release.

Jofra Archer’s troubled elbow injury

The 26-year-old became one of the most fearsome fast bowlers in world cricket since he made his international debut prior to the 2019 ICC World cup in England. His exploits with the ball played a pivotal role in England winning the 50-over World Cup in 2019. Some of his spells were the fastest as they could get.

Archer bowled the Super Over in the final against New Zealand at Lord’s. The Super Over was tied but England won the title due to a technicality of the superior boundary count. After his success in the 2019 ICC World Cup, he put on a splendid display in the Ashes. He took 6/45 in one Test and ended as one of the top bowlers in the series

But since early 2020 the Barbados-born cricketer has been struggling with injuries and hasn’t managed to find his mojo. Meanwhile, this news is going to be a major blow for his IPL side Rajasthan Royals. Archer has been a very important player for the Royals since he joined them in 2018. He has been the key bowler for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
