Team India stalwart Jhulan Goswami announced her retirement from international cricket after playing her final game in Lord’s against England. Notably, Team India beat England on their home soil by 3-0 as well. Here’s a look at some of her best performances.

4/16 against West Indies, Women’s Cricket World Cup (2005)

In her very first World Cup, Jhulan Goswami made headlines and was one of the vital cogs in India’s campaign to their first-ever final as well. In India’s penultimate group stage game in Pretoria, she registered the figures of 4/16 to restrict West Indies to 135.

She first broke the opening stand, removing Nelly Williams and then scalped three more wickets in the death overs, breaking the partnership between Verena Felicien and the captain Stephanie Power. She dismissed both Power and Debbie-Ann Lewis in the same over, before sending Felicien in. And, later on, India chased down the total with 17 overs and eight wickets in hand where Goswami was awarded the Player of the Match.

5/11 against Australia, 5th T20I (2012)

India thrashed Australia at home and once again it was Jhulan Goswami who stepped up for her side. With the series already losing 4-0 before the final match, it was a dead rubber for the Aussies. However, Jhulan Goswami started brilliantly by scalping Alyssa Healy and Lisa Sthalekar in the Powerplay. She was well supported by Archana Das, who claimed three wickets to dismantle Australia’s innings.

However, after bowling three overs in the Powerplay, Goswami returned to bowl the penultimate over of the innings and removed Ellyse Perry, Erin Osborne and Sharon Millanta for ducks as well. Her 5/11 was the second five-for by an Indian woman in T20Is and it is still the best bowling figure by an Indian bowler in women’s T20Is as well.

5/16 against England, 4th ODI (2005)

India completed a 5-0 series win over England in the five-match ODI series at home in 2005. However, in the fourth ODI, England were bundled out to their lowest ever total in ODI history as Jhulan Goswami claimed a five-wicket haul and bowled them out for just 50.

Along with Amita Sharma, Goswami cleaned up England’s top-order as they lost half their side with just 13 runs on board as well. The right-arm pacer scalped the wickets of openers Charlotte Edwards and Rosalie Birch as well as Arran Brindle. Brindle and Nicky Shaw were the next victims of her as she completed her maiden five-for in ODI cricket. While chasing just 51, the hosts needed less than 15 overs to seal the deal as well.
