The Mumbai Indians have officially appointed Lasith Malinga as their bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Malinga has replaced Shane Bond who was with the team for a long time. Malinga, a legendary figure in the Mumbai Indians camp due to his decade-long stint with the franchise from 2009 to 2019, is set to join the coaching staff led by Mark Boucher. The team also features Malinga’s former Mumbai Indians teammate, Kieron Pollard.
In addition to his role with the Mumbai Indians, Malinga serves as the bowling coach for two other teams under the franchise’s ownership: MI Cape Town in the SA20 league, South Africa, and MI New York in Major League Cricket, USA. Expressing his enthusiasm, Malinga stated, “It is truly an honor for me to be appointed Bowling Coach of Mumbai Indians, and my journey in the OneFamily continues, following MI New York and MI Cape Town.”

Malinga’s rich history with the Mumbai Indians includes an impressive tally of seven titles across various leagues, featuring four IPL championships, two Champions League T20 titles as a player, and one Major League Cricket title as a bowling coach. He had previously served as the fast bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals.
Lasith Malinga has played 122 matches to date in his IPL career and he took 170 wickets, with an average of 19.80, conceding nearly 7.14 runs per over with a best individual figure of 13/5. He will prove to be very important to get Mumbai Indians back to winning ways.
