Delhi Capitals (DC) were restricted to 162 runs by the Gujarat Titans (GT) in match 7 of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday thanks to wicket-taking performances by Alzarri Joseph, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Shami. Joseph picked up two wickets in two balls as he sent the dangerous David Warner packing for 37 off 32 balls and Rilee Rossouw for a golden duck. Rashid and Shami did a fine job with the ball as well as the duo picked up three wickets each.

Joseph bowled out his four overs during which he bagged a couple of scalps and conceded only 29 runs. The Antiguan cricketer can be proud of his performance on the day as it will certainly be a huge contribution should his team emerge victorious from the tie.

Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami picked up three wickets but he went for 41 runs in four overs, bringing his economy to over 10. The Indian pacer got the better of two top order batters in Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh. He also dismissed Axar Patel, who was looking dangerous in the latter part of the innings. Despite his high economy, Shami was an integral part of the bowling attack on the day and he will be hoping that his team can bag the victory against DC.

Afghan spinner Rashid Khan was his usual brilliant self yet again, picking up three wickets and conceding only 31 runs in the process. Rashid was brought into the fray quite late on by skipper Hardik Pandya. The decision might have confused fans at first but as it turned out, it was a good choice made under pressure. The spinner’s inclusion late in the game took the Delhi batters by surprise as none of them could really adjust to his bowling.

The Afghan picked up the wickets of Sarfaraz Khan, Abishek Porel and Aman Hakim Khan to finish his spell with 3-31 in four overs.
