Rajasthan Royals will take on Punjab Kings in the 8th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League. Led by Sanju Samson, RR started their season with a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting first, the Royals posted a mammoth total of 203/5. Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Samson hammered managed to score fifties and took their side over the 200-run mark. Rajasthan’s bowling was n target right from the get-go, Trent Boult shaped the ball both ways and dented SRH’s top order, while Yuzvendra Chahal dismantled the middle and lower order by scalping a four-fer as SRH were restricted to 131/8. Ravichandran Ashwin, KM Asif and Jason Holder looked impressive in the first outing.
On the other hand, PBKS started their IPL 2023 campaign with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders. In what was a rain-hit game, the Punjab-based franchise defeated the Knight Riders by a close margin of 7 runs on DLS. Bhauka Rajapaksa scored a well-made 50 and a few handy contributions from the rest of the batters, PBKS ended with 191/5 after being put into bat. Though Punjab’s bowling looked brilliant, some of their bowlers were wayward. While Arshdeep Singh dismantled KRR’s top layer, Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza, Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar took control in the middle phase. The arrival of Kagiso Rabada will give a big boost to the team.

The pitch at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati has traditionally supported spin bowling. This will be the first time an IPL match is going to played at this venue. The ball might do a little bit for the fast bowlers in the initial stages of the match as well, but it will get easier to bat as the match progresses. The batters need to get their eye in before going for the aggressive shots, they can take advantage of the short boundaries at this venue. The team winning the toss would be inclined to bowl first at this venue and chase the score down in the second innings with some dew expected.
