Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya has shared that he isn’t a fan of last-over thrillers after they won a close game against Punjab Kings in Mohali on Thursday, April 13. Mohit Sharma starred with the ball for Gujarat Titans as they restricted PBKS to 153 for 8 in their 20 overs. The chase was looking easy for the Titans as Shubman Gill played yet another fine knock of 67 but the game went into the last over. Gill was dismissed by Sam Curran in the final over before Rahul Tewatia hit the winning runs with one ball in hand and GT won the match by six wickets as well.

While speaking after the match, as quoted by Cricbuzz, Hardik Pandya admitted that he didn’t appreciate the fact that the game went so deep to the final over and said that they would have to go back to the drawing board to rectify the problems as well. The Gujarat Titans skipper urged his team to take more risks and play shots in the middle overs to make sure that the game doesn’t go deep as well.

“To be very honest I would not appreciate for the game to go this deep. We need to go back to the drawing board. They bowled really well. Luckily all our batters are in good nick. We should take risks and play shots in the middle overs, need to make sure the game doesn’t go so deep,” said Pandya.

Hardik Pandya applauded Mohit Sharma after his performance in the game but once again he also said that it would have been a hard pill to swallow if PBKS won it as well and he also stated that he isn’t a fan of close finishes.

“The ball was getting dried up, but the wicket was a belter. Wasn’t surprised when Mohit and Alzarri were bowling. He has done a lot of hard work, he has shown patience and his time has come. It would have been a tough pill to swallow if the game had gone the other side. I would like to finish the game earlier, not a big fan of taking it to the last over,” again shared Hardik Pandya.

However, Shubman Gill too shared his views after the thrilling win in the IPL 2023.

He said: “Wicket got a bit challenging in the end. Was harder to hit sixes with the old ball. It’s a big ground. Was important to keep hitting the gaps, run as hard as possible. I should’ve finished the match. Rahul Tewatia and Kings XI is a love story. In these type of games, there’s definitely pressure on both teams. It’s about trying to minimise dot balls. It was difficult for them also to score runs against old ball. Was important to have a good powerplay. We ticked that box. It wasn’t a big score. Was important to keep hitting the singles. He looked good in the nets also (Mohit). He has a good yorker. He bowled magnificently with the slower one, using the boundaries. Was a great GT debut for him.”
