Mumbai Indians have finally won their first game in the IPL 2023. And, Captain Rohit Sharma applauded his entire team for stepping up when needed after the team’s thrilling win over Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, 11 April. While playing in the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians match turned out to be an absolute nail-biting one where the final ball decided the winner of the game.

Rohit Sharma, however, was given the Player of the Match award for his 65 off 45 balls knock, where he took on the Delhi Capitals attack on a tough pitch. He spoke in the post-match presentation and said that he wanted to make a difference in the powerplay overs with the bat as well. He scored the majority of the runs in the first 6 overs where Mumbai Indians put up 68 runs in the powerplay in the IPL 2023.

“When I went to bat I thought that I needed to make full use of the powerplay because as the game went on, I thought in my mind it’s going to be tough with 2 couple of quality spinners they have so it was there in my mind to keep attacking, take my chances in the first 6 overs and then just see where the game is heading,” Rohit Sharma said after the match.

However, Mumbai broke their 2-match losing streak with the win and called it special too. He said that everybody had been working really hard this season and he was happy that it showed in the results as well. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, 16 April at the Wakhede Stadium as well.

“We’ve been working really hard and finally to get the result feels really good. But we do understand it’s not the end but the first win is always special so we’re gonna cherish this. I thought everyone put their hand up and it is something we spoke of before the game as well that if it is someone’s day then make it really big and make it count for the team,” Rohit Sharma concluded.

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals lost yet another match. After the defeat, David Warner said: “You look at the last three IPL games we have witnessed, they have been amazing. Wrong end of it today, but the guys were fantastic. Rohit played a fantastic knock at the top of the order. Nortje is world-class and that’s what we expect from him, Mustafiz too. Timmy David was on the wrong side of it, so I tried to keep it at stump-height. I think from the last three games, we’ve some positives but we shouldn’t lost wickets in clumps. Axar should bat in the top four the way he is striking the ball. From the last three games we have played, there are a lot of positives.”
