IPL 2022: Ravichandran Ashwin, Jos Buttler to play together, three years after mankad incident

The auction for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has certainly been an enthralling affair so far with all 10 franchises splashing the cash to get their desired players. One such franchise is the inaugural champions, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have bought spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and England batter Jos Buttler. While fans are exited about the addition of the veteran spinner, there might be a little bit of awkwardness in the team’s first training session. The story dates back three years when the England batter was a victim of a mankading incident. The culprit? Ravichadran Ashwin.

Ashwin sparked controversy in the IPL when he mankaded key RR player Jos Buttler while leading Kings XI Punjab, and it remains one of the most talked-about bids in the IPL 2022 mega auction. “Haha Ashwin to Rajasthan. Will love him plotting a Mankad with Buttler,” tweeted former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag.

The incident sparked a debate about the spirit of cricket, dividing fans into two camps. While some defended Ashwin, claiming that he was acting within the rules, others questioned why he didn’t give a warning first. To the delight of Twitterati, the two will now team up and play for the same team. As expected, they exchanged memes in droves, eager to see how the two would fare on the same team.

Shreyas Iyer fetches over 10 crore

Shreyas Iyer became the first player to break the Rs 10 crore price range in IPL 2022 Mega Auction. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 12.25 crore as teams clamored for his services. In addition, Mohammed Shami was sold to Gujarat Titans for Rs 6.25 crore after an intense bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore. It was tipped that Shreyas Iyer would be bid big time and it was proven to be right.

Apart from Iyer and Shami, Faf du Plessis was also bid for by the likes of Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Du Plessis was a vital member of the Chennai Super Kings side but he was snapped up for Rs 7 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Quinton de Kock got a bid from Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. But, CSK opted out and Mumbai Indians jumped in. In the end, Quinton de Kock went to Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 6.75 crore.
