There are some notable absentees in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Kyle Jamieson and Jhye Richardson, who were bought for Rs 15 and Rs 14 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings, are not there in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Apart from that, there is no Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Mitchell Starc in the event. There is a conundrum over Jofra Archer. He has been ruled out until the summer of 2022 due to an elbow injury. Yet, he is in the auction list with a base price of Rs 2 crore. If he is selected and he does not play, then he cannot be substituted in the tournament.
Jofra Archer is expected to be available for the 2023 edition of the tournament. However, the IPL Mega Auction will see New Zealand Test specialist Neil Wagner in the list. Wagner has not played international T20 and it is a surprise that he has put his hat in the list.
Australia has the most overseas player representation in the IPL Auction with 47. They are closely followed by West Indies and South Africa. England, Sri Lanka and New Zealand have the least in the auction list this time. There is also uncertainty over the availability of England and New Zealand players towards the fag end of the IPL. The Tests between England and New Zealand will begin from June 1 and they are part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.
