IPL 2021: Winning the championship is important, not first game, says MI skipper Rohit. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is not really concerned about his side’s first game loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Mumbai Indians lost to RCB by just 2 wickets as the run chase by Virat Kohil’s side went to the last ball in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Sharma feels that winning the tournament is of utmost importance and not the first game.

Harshal Patel delivered what was expected of him with his impeccable bowling. It was AB de Villiers’ batting that ensured RCB defeated Mumbai Indians by two wickets in Chennai at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

IPL 2021: The Harshal Effect

Harshal Patel had an impeccable five wicket haul (three in the final over) that restricted  Mumbai Indians to 159 runs. The Mumbai-based franchise lost four wickets and scored only 1 run off it. Harshal’s bowling figures (5/26) are his best in the IPL. They are also the the best-ever figures for a bowler against the MI in 13 years. Rohit admitted that his side was 20 runs short of the par score.

“Winning the championship is important, I guess, not the first game. Great fight, we didn’t let it go easily. Although the score wasn’t something we were happy with. We were 20 short,” Rohit told hosts’ broadcasters Star Sports after the match.

“We made some mistakes, those are bound to happen. We need to move on. [Jansen] is definitely a talent we’ve identified. When you look at the situation with four overs left they had AB and Christian, that’s why we went with Bumrah and Boult to try and get them out,” he added.

Both teams struggled a little bit in the middle overs and the Mumbai Indians skipper feels the wicket wasn’t necessarily an easy one to bat on.
